Robin Williams' children have reactivated his Instagram account to fight back against AI deepfakes of the late actor.

Robin Williams’ three children have brought their late father’s Instagram account back online, the first activity on the page since his death in 2014. Zak, Zelda, and Cody Williams announced the reactivation of the account, @therobinwilliams, on Monday, and it has already drawn hundreds of thousands of followers.

The move comes as a direct response to the growing wave of AI generated content misusing their father’s likeness and voice online, often referred to as “AI slop.” Deepfake videos and AI generated clips attributed to Williams have circulated widely on social media in recent years, and the family has decided the best defense is offering an authenticated, verified source for his image and work instead.

In a joint statement posted to the account, the siblings wrote that they are grateful to see new generations discovering their father’s work, and that “as technology evolves, we want this to be a safe, trusted place where the stories, photos, videos, and memories shared reflect his legacy with authenticity, warmth, and care.”

Zelda Williams, who has been the most outspoken of the three on this issue, added in a separate post that reviving the account is “one of the best ways we’ve now found to fight back against rampant AI abuse.” She has spoken out before about the flood of synthetic content built around her father, previously asking followers to stop sending her AI generated videos of him, arguing they cheapen his actual body of work rather than honor it.

The revived account’s bio points followers to the family’s official TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube channels as well, giving fans a single verified hub for real archival photos, videos, and memories of Williams rather than AI generated imitations.
