Peacock’s new dramedy “The Miniature Wife” arrived on April 9 with plenty of attention focused on its two leads, Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Macfadyen. Fairly so. But for anyone who has been following Sofia Rosinsky’s career, her performance as Lulu, the couple’s college-aged daughter, is one of the quiet highlights of the whole series.
Lulu is not an easy role. She’s angry, guarded, and carrying a complicated resentment toward her mother that she hasn’t fully unpacked herself. In less capable hands, that could easily read as one-note. Rosinsky, though, finds the layers in it. Collider noted she is “great and given a lot to do” in the part, and the show earns that praise most when it stops treating Lulu as a subplot and lets her breathe as a full character. The early episodes flirt with some familiar young-adult moodiness, but the further you get into the season, the more Rosinsky is given to work with, and the more she delivers.
The moment where Lulu finally reckons with what has happened to her mother is where the performance really crystallizes. It’s the kind of scene that rewards patience, and Rosinsky handles it with the emotional precision that anyone who has watched her work will recognize immediately.
Those of us who have been in her corner since “Paper Girls” or before know that this was always coming. What’s satisfying about “The Miniature Wife” is that it gives her a stage worthy of what she brings to it. She holds her own opposite two seasoned, Emmy-winning performers without missing a step, and she does it while playing a character with a genuinely difficult emotional throughline to navigate.
Sofia Rosinsky as Lulu is a confident, grounded performance and exactly the kind of work that makes “The Miniature Wife” worth watching. It’s another strong entry in a career that keeps building in the right direction.
