The highly anticipated live-action Scooby-Doo series coming to Netflix has officially rounded out its core cast. Following the earlier announcement that Mckenna Grace will take on the iconic role of Daphne Blake, three more talented young actors have been confirmed to bring the rest of the beloved Mystery Inc. gang to life. The streaming platform is moving forward with a fresh adaptation that promises to balance nostalgia with a modern edge for a new generation of viewers.
Joining Grace in the Mystery Machine will be Maxwell Jenkins, who has been cast as the charismatic leader Fred Jones. Tanner Hagen will take on the role of the lovably ravenous slacker Shaggy Rogers, while Abby Ryder Fortson steps into the shoes of the pragmatic and brilliant Velma Dinkley. These rising stars will anchor a reimagined origin story that explores exactly how the famous teenage sleuths first crossed paths and formed their legendary team.
This new iteration of the classic Hanna-Barbera property is pitched as a slightly darker and more serialized take on the franchise. The plot follows the teens during their final summer at camp, where longtime friends Shaggy and Daphne stumble into a haunting mystery. Their investigation centers around a lonely and lost Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder. Realizing they need help, the duo teams up with the highly logical townie Velma and the handsome new arrival Freddy. As the group digs deeper into the case, they find themselves pulled into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their deepest secrets.
The eight-episode project is being spearheaded by showrunners and writers Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who are also serving as executive producers alongside Andre Nemec and Jeff Pinkner. The series is produced in partnership with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Production is currently gearing up to begin filming in Atlanta, Georgia.
