As Jaws marks its 50th anniversary, Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) has rolled out a series of soundtrack reissues that highlight John Williams’ Academy Award-winning score. The music, widely regarded as one of the most influential film compositions of all time, is receiving fresh attention in a variety of formats.

The centerpiece of the new releases is a Dolby Atmos mix of the original Grammy-winning soundtrack album, prepared by engineer Steve Genewick and reissue producer Mike Matessino. This immersive version, now available on digital platforms, offers listeners a chance to experience Williams’ work with greater depth and clarity than previous editions.

On October 17, UMe will follow with a high-resolution digital stereo mix and a limited-run “Shark Infested” Water-Filled LP, capped at 1,975 copies. A standard vinyl pressing without the water effect is scheduled for release on November 21. Collectors will also find a new three-disc CD set from specialty label Intrada, pairing the original soundtrack album with the film’s score recording and additional material. Meanwhile, Back Lot Music and Mondo have issued the score digitally and on vinyl, respectively.

The renewed attention to the Jaws soundtrack comes as Universal continues its broader anniversary campaign. The film returned to theaters in August in IMAX, 3D, and 4DX formats, while the Academy Museum in Los Angeles is hosting a special exhibition beginning September 14. Universal has also released a 4K UHD edition that includes the new documentary Jaws@50: The Definitive Inside Story. Around the world, orchestras are performing Williams’ music live-to-picture in Jaws in Concert events.

First released in 1975, Jaws not only cemented Steven Spielberg’s reputation as a director but also helped redefine blockbuster filmmaking. Williams’ score, anchored by its menacing two-note motif, became inseparable from the film’s suspense and remains a cornerstone of film music history.
