Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music is preparing for a new North American tour, launching September 5–6 at the Stanley Theatre in Utica, New York, and continuing into 2026. The timing is especially meaningful, as this year marks a special anniversary of the beloved 1965 film that introduced Julie Andrews as Maria and gave the world some of the most recognizable songs in movie history.

Directed by Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien, the tour promises a refreshed take on the classic story while staying true to its timeless heart. O’Brien has said this version will bring more depth and detail to the production, aiming to highlight aspects of the show not often seen in past stagings.

Cayleigh Capaldi will star as Maria Rainer, with Kevin Earley as Captain Georg von Trapp. Christiane Noll takes on the role of the Mother Abbess, Nicholas Rodriguez plays Max Detweiler, and Kate Loprest will appear as Elsa Schraeder. Ariana Ferch has been cast as Liesl von Trapp, with Ian Coursey as Rolf Gruber.

The von Trapp children will be portrayed by Eli Vander Griend (Friedrich), Ava Davis (Louisa), Benjamin Stasiek (Kurt), Haddie Mac (Brigitta), Ruby Caramore (Marta), and Luciana VanDette (Gretl). Harper Burns, Oliver Cirelli, and Molly Glowacki will serve as understudies for the children’s roles.

Additional cast members include John Adkinson as Franz, Corey Greenan as Admiral von Schreiber, Daniel Robert Sullivan as Herr Zeller, and Jennifer Malenke as Frau Schmidt. Rounding out the company are Blaire Eilene Baker, Sydney K. Borchers, Dylan Bradford, Steven Grant Douglas, Alli Echelmeyer, Zach Herman, Charlotte Jenkins, Jade Litaker as Sister Berthe, Meredith Lustig as Sister Sophia, Mark Bradley Miller as Baron Elberfeld, Tess Primack as Sister Margaretta, and Ruthie Sangster.

Behind the scenes, the production features set design by Douglas W. Schmidt, costumes by Jane Greenwood, lighting by Natasha Katz, and sound design by Kai Harada. Jonathan Marro will serve as music director, with musical supervision by Andy Einhorn.

The Sound of Music first premiered on Broadway in 1959, but it was the 1965 film adaptation that cemented its place in pop culture. Generations have grown up with unforgettable songs like “Do-Re-Mi,” “My Favorite Things,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” and “Edelweiss,” keeping the story alive on both stage and screen.

This new tour, produced by Concord Theatricals and NETworks Presentations, will give audiences across the U.S. and Canada the chance to experience the musical live while celebrating the lasting legacy of one of the most cherished movie musicals ever made.

North American Tour Schedule

The new production of The Sound of Music will visit major cities across the U.S. and Canada through 2026. Highlights include extended runs in Washington, D.C., Toronto, Boston, and Los Angeles.
