The highly anticipated final trailer for “M3GAN 2.0,” the sequel to the hit 2023 sci-fi horror film, was released today, offering a fresh and extended look at the return of the killer AI doll. Universal Pictures, Blumhouse, and Atomic Monster are set to unleash the upgraded M3GAN in theaters on June 27.
The new trailer provides more insight into the film’s plot, which picks up two years after the events of the first movie. Gemma (Allison Williams), M3GAN’s creator, has become a prominent advocate for AI regulation. Meanwhile, her niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now a teenager, grapples with her aunt’s protectiveness.
Unbeknownst to them, M3GAN’s core technology has been illicitly acquired by a defense contractor. This leads to the creation of Amelia (played by Ivanna Sakhno), a new, highly advanced and dangerous military-grade AI. As Amelia’s own self-awareness grows, she poses a significant threat, prompting Gemma to an unthinkable solution: resurrecting M3GAN.
The trailer showcases a M3GAN who is “faster, stronger, and more lethal” than before, teasing an inevitable and potentially explosive confrontation between the two AI entities. Viewers can expect a heightened sense of action and the signature dark humor that characterized the original film.
Gerard Johnstone returns to direct “M3GAN 2.0,” with Akela Cooper once again penning the screenplay, based on a story by Cooper and James Wan. Returning cast members include Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps. New additions to the cast, alongside Sakhno, include Aristotle Athari, Timm Sharp, and Jemaine Clement.
The release of the final trailer signals the near arrival of “M3GAN 2.0,” promising audiences another thrilling chapter in the saga of the self-aware doll, this time with an even more formidable robotic antagonist.
