Netflix’s upcoming Little House on the Prairie reboot has rounded out the core members of the Ingalls family with the casting of Charles, Caroline, and Mary. Luke Bracey, Crosby Fitzgerald, and Skywalker Hughes join previously announced Alice Halsey, who will portray Laura Ingalls in the new adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s beloved book series.

As first reported by Deadline, Bracey will step into the role of Charles Ingalls, a character long remembered from the original 1974 television series. This version of Charles is described as a devoted family man and a romantic at heart. From carrying his future wife through the snow to a winter dance to spinning tales by the fire, he is portrayed as rugged yet soulful—a farmer, trapper, musician, and storyteller. Optimistic and adventurous, Charles is a dreamer driven by the hope of better opportunities for his family.

Caroline Ingalls, portrayed by Fitzgerald, is a grounding force in the family. Her relationship with Charles is one of deep love and mutual respect—a rare dynamic for the time period. While Caroline gave up her teaching career to start a family, the show acknowledges her quiet longing for independence. She’s practical, steady, and endlessly patient, yet unafraid to stand firm when needed. Her strength helps keep the family grounded through both joy and hardship.

Skywalker Hughes takes on the role of Mary Ingalls, Laura’s older sister and frequent foil. Mary is described as a model of propriety—polished, rule-abiding, and more comfortable indoors with poetry and sewing than out in the elements. While Mary and Laura often clash, their relationship remains essential to the emotional core of the series: loving one another fiercely, even in the midst of sibling rivalry.

This reimagining of Little House on the Prairie begins with the Ingalls family raising their two daughters, Mary and Laura, and blends emotional storytelling with the stark realities of 19th-century frontier life.

Rebecca Sonnenshine serves as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Joy Gorman Wettels, Trip Friendly, Dana Fox, and Susanna Fogel. Sarah Adina Smith will direct the first episode. The series is being produced by CBS Studios in collaboration with Anonymous Content Studios, with filming scheduled to begin in June in Winnipeg, Canada.

With its heartfelt casting and bold new vision, the series aims to honor the legacy of the original while reaching a new generation of viewers.
