Mike Flanagan’s ‘Carrie’ TV Series Lands Prime Video Greenlight

NOTE: This article is 3 months old and may not include the most recent information.

Mike Flanagan, the mind behind Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher, is sinking his teeth into Stephen King’s Carrie—and it’s going to be a wild ride. Picture this: a secluded teen, Carrie White, grappling with a domineering mother and the sudden death of her father. Then toss in high school bullies, a scandal, and telekinetic powers sparking to life. That’s the eight-episode reimagining Flanagan’s crafting as writer, showrunner, and director of select episodes, with Trevor Macy executive producing alongside him.

Deadline is reporting Prime Video has given the greenlight, and things are moving fast. Flanagan had a writers’ room buzzing by late fall, and Amazon MGM Studios is all in, adding Carrie to their growing list of MGM revamps like Tomb Raider, Poltergeist, Legally Blonde, and Barber Shop. Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, told Deadline, “Carrie is an iconic story that has withstood the test of time with continued cultural relevance,” promising, “With Mike Flanagan at the helm and the accomplished team assembled including executive producer Trevor Macy, this provocative series is sure to captivate our global customers.”

The cast is coming together quietly but surely. Summer H. Howell (Hunter Hunter) is circling the role of Carrie, ready to channel that quiet rage, while Siena Agudong (Resident Evil) steps up as Sue Snell, the nemesis with a complicated edge. The official synopsis tees it up: “After her father’s sudden death, Carrie finds herself contending with the challenges of attending high school, a bullying scandal and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.” It’s Flanagan’s wheelhouse—raw, messy emotion meets supernatural chaos.

This isn’t Carrie’s first dance. Brian De Palma’s 1976 film, with Sissy Spacek doused in blood, set the gold standard, and the 2013 Chloë Grace Moretz remake took its own stab. Now, Flanagan’s got a chance to spill new blood on the tale. We’re keeping tabs on every update here at Trevor Decker News—check Deadline’s original report for the full scoop.
