‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Finds New Life with Ketchup Entertainment

The saga of Coyote vs. Acme has taken a sharp turn off the shelf and onto the global stage. Ketchup Entertainment confirmed today that they’ve finalized a deal with Warner Bros. for worldwide rights to the live-action/animated hybrid starring Looney Tunes’ Wile E. Coyote. This follows our earlier report from a couple weeks back about the sale, which industry whispers valued at around $50M. The plan? A theatrical release in 2026.

Gareth West, CEO of Ketchup Entertainment, shared his enthusiasm, stating, “We’re thrilled to have made a deal with Warner Bros. Pictures to bring this film to audiences worldwide. Coyote Vs Acme is a perfect blend of nostalgia and modern storytelling, capturing the essence of the beloved Looney Tunes characters while introducing them to a new generation. We believe it will resonate with both longtime fans and newcomers alike.” It’s a hefty grab for Ketchup, known for picking up titles like Hypnotic and Memory.

Directed by David Green and penned by Samy Burch, with Chris deFaria and James Gunn producing, the film pulls from Ian Frazier’s New Yorker article “Coyote v. Acme.” It follows Wile E. Coyote, fed up with Acme’s faulty products in his Roadrunner pursuits, hiring a lawyer (Will Forte) to take the company to court. They square off against the lawyer’s ex-boss (John Cena), with Lana Condor and Tone Bell in the mix, blending cartoon antics with a legal twist.

The road here wasn’t smooth. Despite testing well, Warner Bros. shelved the film two years ago during a cost-cutting spree. In early 2024, they screened it for buyers with a $70M price tag—matching its reported cost—but found no takers. The move to bench it didn’t sit well, especially when tax write-down rumors swirled. Star Will Forte vented, calling it “fcking bullsht,” while Lego Movie director Phil Lord joined the chorus of frustration.

Ketchup Entertainment’s deal marks their biggest play yet, hot on the heels of rescuing another Warner Bros. Looney Tunes flick, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, last year. For fans tracking this one, it’s a redemption arc worth watching. Stay locked to Trevor Decker News for the latest as Coyote vs. Acme gears up for its big-screen moment.
