Mckenna Grace Joins Green Day-Inspired Comedy ‘New Years Rev’

Mckenna Grace has signed on to star in New Years Rev, a comedy film inspired by punk rock icons Green Day, currently in production. The movie follows three friends on a chaotic road trip to Los Angeles, mistakenly believing their garage band is set to open for Green Day on New Year’s Eve. Far from a standard biopic, it takes a fictional spin, channeling the band’s pre-Dookie van-touring days into a story described by Live Nation Productions as “rowdy and mischievous.” With Green Day’s music woven throughout and a live performance by the band included, it’s shaping up to be a unique blend of humor and nostalgia.

Grace joined the cast in February and announced her involvement with an Instagram post, declaring herself Green Day’s “biggest fan.” That personal connection hints at a performance that could carry extra authenticity, whether she’s one of the deluded trio or a key supporting player. She’s paired with a strong ensemble: Fred Armisen, Bobby Lee, The Office stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, and Sean Gunn, alongside Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust as the aspiring musicians. The mix of comedy veterans and fresh faces suggests a dynamic balance of laughs and energy.

Production kicked off in early February in Oklahoma City, an unexpected choice that could lend a raw edge to the film’s look. Now in its final days of a five-week shoot, the crew has been spotted at local spots like Perry’s, with casting calls for “punks, rockers, and emo young adults” filling out the scenes. Shooting in Oklahoma, as flagged by the state’s Film and Music Office, aligns with the story’s gritty roots while keeping costs in check—a smart move for a project aiming to capture Green Day’s early vibe.

Backed by Live Nation Productions, known for A Star Is Born and Love Lizzo, New Years Rev offers a fresh take on music-driven films, leaning on comedy over biography. Its broad appeal could pull in Green Day fans and casual viewers alike, boosted by the band’s soundtrack and Billie Joe Armstrong’s nod to those formative “van days.” No release date is set, but with filming nearly done, a late 2025 or early 2026 debut seems plausible—perhaps timed for a New Year’s tie-in. Trevor Decker News will track updates as they roll in.

New Years Rev marks another exciting move for Grace, whose fandom and skill could make her a highlight in this punk-charged comedy. With a sharp cast, a clever premise, and Green Day’s musical stamp, it’s one to watch as it heads toward the finish line.
