Prime Video has announced that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will return for a third season. Production is set to begin this spring at Shepperton Studios in the United Kingdom, continuing the series’ expansion following the conclusion of its second season last October.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new season will feature a significant time jump, advancing the storyline into a major conflict during Middle-earth’s Second Age.
The directing team for season three includes returning directors Charlotte Brandstrom (Shōgun), who previously directed episodes in both prior seasons, and Sanaa Hamri (The Wheel of Time). Stefan Schwartz (The Boys, The Walking Dead) joins as a new director for the series.
Since its debut, The Rings of Power has remained a major success for Prime Video, serving as one of the platform’s top drivers for new memberships. The show is led by showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, with executive producers Lindsey Weber, Charlotte Brandstrom, and others continuing their roles.
