Two weeks was all it took. Prime Video announced on Thursday that Carrie, Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s debut novel, will return for a second season. All eight episodes of the first season, which premiered on October 7, are streaming now on Prime Video.
Flanagan, who serves as showrunner, has said he envisions Carrie’s story as a three-season arc, and the renewal puts that plan two thirds of the way there. “For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story,” Flanagan said. “From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next.”
Prime Video made the announcement with a video on Instagram, cutting together fans calling for another season with clips from the series, and ending on the words fans were waiting for: Season 2.

Stephen King, who executive produces the series alongside Flanagan, is looking ahead too. “I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White,” King said. “Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next. It’s bound to be thrilling.”
The series made an immediate splash on the service, ranking as the most-watched title on Prime Video in more than 105 countries right after its debut. “Carrie is connecting with both longtime Stephen King fans and a new generation altogether, including young adults and international audiences, with particular strength among female viewers. It speaks to the enduring power of this story and signals that Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of the iconic IP has real breadth. We’re excited by where he and Stephen plan to take the story,” said Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios.
Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White, with Samantha Sloyan as her mother, Margaret, and a cast that includes Matthew Lillard, Siena Agudong, Thalia Dudek as Emaline and Amber Midthunder. The renewal announcement teases new revelations, major character arcs and shocking twists ahead next season. Fans are also looking forward to seeing how the storyline with Emaline plays out, with Thalia Dudek in the role. It has been a big month for Howell, whose Carrie also fronts the new television tie-in edition of King’s novel.
