Filming has reportedly wrapped on the highly anticipated sequel Beetlejuice 2. According to CBS, production resumed last week in Melrose following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Fans spotted actress Jenna Ortega, who plays the daughter of Winona Ryder’s character Lydia Deetz, on set as filming finished up on Friday.
Ryder is reprising her role as Lydia in the sequel, with Catherine O’Hara also returning as Delia. Michael Keaton is back in the title role of Beetlejuice, along with newcomers Monica Belluci, Justin Theroux, and Willem Dafoe joining the cast. Tim Burton returns as director, working from a script by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The story was devised by Seth Grahame-Smith.
In an interview with The Independent, Burton said he focused on the basics and collaborating with talented cast and crew on this sequel. Cinematographer Haris Zambarloukos told The Direct that passion and in-camera practical effects played a key role in recapturing the spirit of the original film while furthering the story 30 years later.
Beetlejuice 2 is scheduled for theatrical release on Sept. 6 2024.
