As the highly anticipated Beetlejuice 2 (officially titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) approaches its September 6 release, the sequel is already making waves. Certified “Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes with a score between 78% and 80%, this follow-up to the beloved 1988 classic delivers a mix of nostalgia and fresh creativity. While it slightly trails the original’s 81% rating, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has been praised for its high entertainment value and faithful continuation of the original story.
Jenna Ortega Shines as Lydia Deetz’s Daughter
Jenna Ortega, who plays Astrid, Lydia Deetz’s daughter, has captured attention with her performance. Ortega, known for her roles in Wednesday and other major projects, brings a modern edge to the sequel while still paying homage to the original. Her on-screen chemistry with Michael Keaton’s iconic Beetlejuice has been highlighted as a standout element, with critics noting that her portrayal helps bridge the gap between old and new audiences.
Ortega’s role as Astrid taps into the same gothic charm that made Lydia a fan favorite, but with a twist that only Ortega could deliver. Her inclusion in the cast is one of the reasons Beetlejuice 2 feels both fresh and familiar, making her performance a key talking point as the film gains critical attention.
Tim Burton’s Directorial Comeback
Director Tim Burton has received high praise for his work on Beetlejuice 2, with many calling it a “return to form.” Combining his signature dark humor with impressive practical effects and modern CGI, Burton has managed to retain the original film’s quirky and macabre style while incorporating new, innovative elements. His direction has been widely credited for helping Beetlejuice Beetlejuice capture the same whimsical atmosphere that made the original such a classic.
A Star-Studded Cast Elevates the Sequel
Alongside Jenna Ortega and Michael Keaton, new cast members like Willem Dafoe and Justin Theroux contribute to Beetlejuice 2’s appeal. Critics have praised the seamless integration of both old and new faces, noting that Keaton’s return as Beetlejuice is as entertaining and effective as ever.
Keaton, who first embodied the character in 1988, has lost none of his charm, delivering a performance that critics have described as energetic and chaotic in the best possible way. His return to the role, combined with fresh talent like Ortega, adds new layers to the narrative, making Beetlejuice 2 much more than just a nostalgia-driven project.
