Nickelodeon made waves today by announcing the renewal of its iconic animated series SpongeBob SquarePants for a 15th season. This will bring the total number of episodes for the absorbent yellow sponge and his friends up to 371 since the show’s debut in 1999.
The news comes right before SpongeBob’s 25th anniversary celebrations next year. After over two decades on the air, SpongeBob remains Nickelodeon’s most-watched animated series. Its unique brand of nautical nonsense and endearing characters clearly continues to resonate with fans both old and new.
Season 15 will feature 26 new episodes of undersea escapades. The voice cast of Tom Kenny, Bill Fagerbakke, Rodger Bumpass, Clancy Brown, Carolyn Lawrence, and Mr. Lawrence will all be returning. Fans can continue watching previous seasons on Paramount+ along with SpongeBob spinoffs like Kamp Koral and The Patrick Star Show.
Since premiering in July 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has become a beloved pop culture icon. The show has spawned video games, films, toys, and even a Broadway musical. The new season promises more hilarious adventures with SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, Sandy, Plankton, and the whole Bikini Bottom gang.
After 21 years as the number one animated series, the renewal shows that SpongeBob still has plenty of life left in him. Stay tuned for more information as Nickelodeon dives into season 15 of this comedy classic!
