After years of anticipation, Warner Bros. has officially confirmed that Beetlejuice 2 is in development. The announcement was made during the Warner Bros. Discovery showcase at CinemaCon 2023, where a brief sizzle reel of logos featured the film.

The original Beetlejuice, directed by Tim Burton, has amassed a dedicated fan base since its release in 1988. Speculation about a potential sequel has been circulating for years, particularly as rumors recently suggested that Jenna Ortega, known for her role in Wednesday, might be in negotiations to join the project as the daughter of Winona Ryder’s character, Lydia.

While no official confirmation has been made regarding casting or other details, it has been reported that the sequel is set to begin production in May or June 2023. Both Burton and Michael Keaton are expected to return for the project.

Keaton first hinted at his involvement over a decade ago and confirmed discussions with Burton in 2014. In 2017, Burton mentioned that a sequel was “closer than ever,” around the same time that a script rewrite was reportedly in progress.

With only a logo appearing in the sizzle reel, further information about Beetlejuice 2 remains limited. However, it seems that both Burton and Keaton are enthusiastic about revisiting the beloved film.
