The first logo for Curry Barker’s Anything But Ghosts is here. The glowing green title treatment debuted during Blumhouse’s BlumFest panel at New York Comic Con on Friday night, where Barker and co-writer and co-star Cooper Tomlinson took the Empire Stage to talk about the horror-comedy.
The film follows two con artists whose fake ghost hunting business spirals out of control after encountering a real ghost. Barker plays Mouse and Tomlinson plays Eddy, the two leads, joined by Bryce Dallas Howard, Aaron Paul, Violet McGraw, and Chris Reinacher in the ensemble.
Barker said the project was written specifically as a vehicle for the duo. “I need him on camera with me. We wrote this together thinking this will be the movie that we starred in together, an homage to what we’ve been doing online,” he told the crowd. “I didn’t write Obsession with me necessarily in mind, but we knew we had to do these two characters.”
McGraw, best known as Cady in the M3GAN films, joined the cast back in April. Her character has not been publicly revealed, but she told Daily Actor this week she is excited for fans to see it. “I have a horror movie called Anything But Ghosts that comes out next year,” she said. “And it was done with the same director from Obsession. The one and only Curry Barker, which is insane. I can’t wait to talk about it more.”
Fans of Obsession should expect the same mischievous approach to the genre. Barker said the film is built to subvert horror expectations the way his breakout did. “You can take the blueprint of a horror movie, and know what audiences are expecting. You can actually use that to your advantage,” he said. “You can expect that same attitude as Anything But Ghosts.” Tomlinson has described the tone as “Key and Peele walked into Hereditary.”
The film exists in the same universe as Obsession, with Barker previously teasing a direct reference to what happened to Inde Navarrette’s character Nikki.
Making the film was no victory lap. Barker has said that shooting Anything But Ghosts dwarfed the difficulty of his breakout. “The hardest day on Obsession was the easiest day on Anything But Ghosts,” he told Deadline’s TIFF panel last month. “We had a 130-page script and we had 26 days to shoot it. I’m also starring in it and directing and I’m the lead character. I have more lines than anyone in the movie.” He revealed that Zach Cregger advised him to cut 30 pages from the script, advice he did not take.
The early word is strong. Seth Rogen, who has seen the film, praised it recently, saying it is even better than Obsession and singling out Barker’s acting alongside stars like Paul and Howard.
The logo reveal was part of a massive 2027 slate announcement during the two-hour BlumFest panel, hosted by MatPat. Blumhouse-Atomic Monster unveiled nine titles for next year: River (Jan. 15), The Revenge of La Llorona (Feb. 26), The Exorcist: Martyrs, Anything But Ghosts (May 7), Paranormal Activity (May 21), The Blair Witch Project (Sept. 24), Molepeople (August), and Sleepover and Seasons (Nov. 12).
The film is produced by Jason Blum for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, alongside Roy Lee and Steven Schneider of Spooky Pictures, Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath of Divide/Conquer, and Image Nation. Barker and Tomlinson executive produce under their That’s a Bad Idea banner. It was shot in Vancouver under the working title Faraday and wrapped in April.
Obsession remains the box office story of the year, grossing $519 million worldwide on a $750,000 budget and becoming Focus Features’ highest-grossing release ever. Anything But Ghosts arrives in theaters May 7, 2027, from Focus Features, with Universal Pictures International handling overseas.
