Netflix has officially wrapped production on Scooby-Doo: Origins. The streamer announced the milestone on Sunday with a carousel of behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram, captioned: “Our Great Dane pup and his gang of meddling kids have officially wrapped production on SCOOBY-DOO: ORIGINS, coming 2027!”
Mckenna Grace, who plays Daphne Blake, appears in two of the wrap slides — a selfie with co-star Maxwell Jenkins in front of a ‘Fresh Film’ sign, and a late-night kitchen candid with the full gang in the eight-episode origin story. As TDN reported in February, Grace was the first member of Mystery Inc. to be cast, and the role is something of a homecoming: she previously voiced a younger Daphne in the 2020 animated film Scoob! The Emmy-nominated actress has become one of the most consistently compelling young performers working today, and her Daphne sits at the emotional center of Netflix’s reimagining.
She is joined by Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones — the quartet Netflix rounded out in March. Frank Welker, who has voiced Fred since 1969 and took over as Scooby in the 2002 live-action film, returns to voice the Great Dane, with Paul Walter Hauser playing Scooby’s owner.
The series is a modern reimagining from showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, following the gang through their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears, where a lost Great Dane puppy pulls them into a mystery with a darker, more serialized edge than the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon. Greg Berlanti executive produces alongside Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman, with Warner Bros. Television as the studio — the team behind the eight-episode order Netflix handed out in March 2025.
The 2027 window is the first firm release timing Netflix has given the series. Production began in Atlanta in April — when the young cast shared photobooth pictures ahead of the shoot — and was scheduled to run through September, putting the wrap right on schedule.
With filming complete, the series now heads into post-production, and a first trailer can’t be far behind. For a franchise that has been solving mysteries since 1969, the story of how Mystery Inc. first came together is officially in the can.
