Fans of “Wizards of Waverly Place” have reason to celebrate as David Henrie and Selena Gomez are set to return in a sequel to the beloved Disney Channel series. Henrie recently shared his excitement about reuniting with Gomez, praising her sharp wit and talent.
In a recent interview, Henrie reminisced about working with Gomez after a decade, saying, “It was awesome. We didn’t want it to end. It was great. She’s so good. She has such a quick wit that’s only gotten stronger.”
The sequel, tentatively titled “Wizards,” will feature Henrie and Gomez reprising their roles as Justin and Alex Russo. Henrie hinted at some emotionally charged scenes that will resonate deeply with fans of the original series. “We have a couple of scenes that I think will choke up the original fans of the show, and they’re really touching, and they went really well. So, I’m excited for you to see it,” he shared.
The new series will explore Justin Russo’s life as an adult who has chosen to live a normal, non-magical life with his family—Giada (Mimi Gianopulos), Roman (Alkaio Thiele), and Milo (Max Matenko). However, when his sister Alex arrives seeking his help for her protégé, Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), Justin must revisit his magical past. This storyline promises to blend the familiar magic with new challenges as Justin mentors Billie while managing his everyday responsibilities and protecting the Wizard World.
David DeLuise will also return to his role as Jerry Russo, the Russo family patriarch. Henrie expressed his joy in working with the original cast again, saying, “It was a joy. And we hope to have everyone back throughout the lifetime of the show, and if it’s up to me, as often as possible ‘cause they’re just such a wonderful addition.”
Henrie also teased a mystery surrounding his character’s loss of magical powers, which “may or may not have been against his will.” He praised the new cast’s talent and expressed his commitment to maintaining the spirit of the original series. “My goal is to recreate the heart of the original show so anyone can watch it and go, ‘This is Wizards. This feels like the themes, the values, the world, the comedy. This is Wizards.'”
As anticipation builds, fans can look forward to a blend of nostalgia and new adventures that promise to capture the magic of “Wizards of Waverly Place” once more. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting sequel.
