Fans of the beloved Wizards of Waverly Place are in for a treat as Disney Channel gives us a sneak peek into the highly anticipated sequel series, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. The first look video features the much-loved Russo siblings, Justin and Alex, portrayed by David Henrie and Selena Gomez, bringing back the magic from the original show.
In the newly released two-minute video, viewers are taken back to the familiar world of Waverly Place. The behind-the-scenes footage highlights the chemistry between Henrie and Gomez, along with the introduction of a new generation of wizards. Janice LeAnn Brown joins the cast as Billie, a young wizard-in-training, alongside Alkaio Thiele, Max Matenko, and Mimi Gianopulos, who play Justin’s children, Roman and Milo, and his wife, Giada.
The series follows Justin Russo, who has chosen to live a normal, mortal life with his family. However, when Alex arrives at his doorstep with Billie, seeking help, Justin is drawn back into the magical world he left behind. As he takes on the role of mentor to Billie, Justin must balance his responsibilities as a father while protecting the future of the Wizard World.
Selena Gomez, who also serves as an executive producer, shared her excitement about returning to the role that made her a household name. “This is where it all started. We’re home!” she said in the first-look video. Though Gomez is expected to make only a limited appearance, her presence in the opening episode is sure to delight longtime fans of the series.
Another familiar face from the original show, David DeLuise, who played the Russo family patriarch, Jerry, also makes an appearance, adding a touch of nostalgia. Henrie expressed how much fun it was to work with Gomez again after more than a decade. “It was awesome. We didn’t want it to end. It was great,” he said, noting that Gomez’s quick wit has only gotten sharper over the years.
The series is being brought to life by the original creators and executive producers, including Jed Elinoff, Scott Thomas, Gary Marsh, and Jonas Agin. Directed by Andy Fickman, known for his work in family entertainment, the pilot sets the tone for what promises to be a heartwarming and magical journey.
Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is set to premiere later this year on Disney Channel and Disney+. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to the world of Waverly Place, this sequel is sure to bring back fond memories and plenty of magic.
