Emmys Move to Prime Video in Six-Year Deal

Starting with the September 2027 ceremony, the show will stream free worldwide with no Prime subscription required, ending more than 30 years of rotating among the broadcast networks.

The Television Academy announced Tuesday that the Emmy Awards will stream exclusively on Prime Video under a six-year agreement, beginning with the ceremony in September 2027.

The deal makes Prime Video the exclusive global home of television’s biggest night, ending the long-running rotation among ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC that had been in place for more than 30 years. This year’s telecast on NBC was the last under that arrangement.

For viewers, the key detail is access. Amazon plans to keep the Emmys in front of its paywall, meaning anyone around the world can watch the show free, with no Prime subscription required. Prime Video is available in more than 240 countries and territories.

“For nearly eight decades the Emmys have recognized the best storytelling and talent in television, and we’re honored that Prime Video will be trusted as the global home for this celebration over the next six years,” said Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, in the announcement.

The Emmys join a growing migration of awards shows to streaming. The Oscars are set to move to YouTube in 2029, and the Actor Awards, formerly the SAG Awards, have streamed on Netflix since 2024. Financial terms of the Television Academy’s deal with Amazon were not disclosed.
