Picking up twelve years after the events of Ted 2, John Bennett and his thunder-buddy Ted are now neighbors, each with a family of their own and a dead-end job.
The animated sequel, which comes from creator Seth MacFarlane with Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh as co-showrunners, released its first teaser this week. In the 20-second clip, Ted tells John they can do anything they want now that they are animated, with no consequences. John tests that theory with a backflip, lands flat on his face, and groans that it hurts like real life. When an anvil promptly falls on him, Ted just grins: “An anvil. Ah, they’re having fun. This is gonna be fun.”
MacFarlane returns to voice Ted, alongside Mark Wahlberg as the voice of John, Amanda Seyfried as John’s wife Sam, and Jessica Barth as Ted’s wife Tami-Lynn. Kyle Mooney and Liz Richman join as series regulars Apollo and Ruth.
The first eight episodes stream December 17 on Peacock, with more episodes arriving in 2027. Rough Draft Studios handles the animation, with UGT, Fuzzy Door, and MRC producing.
As TDN reported in April, MacFarlane had been pitching a direct-to-Peacock Ted movie; the animated series marks the franchise’s return to the screen instead.
