Hayden Panettiere, the actor best known for playing Claire Bennet on Heroes and Juliette Barnes on Nashville, has died at 36. Her representative confirmed the news on August 16, 2026, saying: “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her, and to the millions who watched her onscreen.” A cause of death has not been disclosed.

Panettiere began her career as a child actor, appearing in films including Remember the Titans, Raising Helen and Ice Princess before landing the role that made her a household name. As Claire Bennet, the cheerleader with regenerative powers on NBC’s Heroes, she became one of the most recognizable young stars of the 2000s. She went on to headline Nashville for six seasons as rising country star Juliette Barnes, earning multiple award nominations along the way, and later returned to the Scream franchise, reprising her role as Kirby Reed in Scream 4 and Scream VI. She also lent her voice to the video game Until Dawn.

Off screen, Panettiere spoke candidly in recent years about the difficulties behind her public life. Her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, addressed her experience with childhood fame, motherhood and mental health, as well as the 2023 death of her younger brother and fellow actor Jansen Panettiere at age 28. She is survived by her daughter, Kaya, whom she shared with former fiance Wladimir Klitschko.

Tributes from fans and former co-stars are expected to grow in the coming days as more details emerge. TDN will continue to update this story as new information becomes available.
