Jackie Evancho gave her followers something worth pausing for over the holiday weekend. As America marked its 250th birthday, the singer took to Instagram wishing everyone a happy Fourth of July, writing “Happy 4th of July everyone! 250 years!!!” along with a reminder to stay cool and hydrated in the summer heat. But it was what she paired with the message that made the post stand out: a split-screen video of herself performing the first verse of Amazing Grace a cappella, harmonizing with her own voice across multiple panels to create a choir-like arrangement built entirely from her vocals.

It is a short clip, but it does not need to be anything more. With no instruments and no production beyond her own stacked harmonies, the performance strips the hymn down to its purest form and lets Evancho’s voice do all the work. Fans responded immediately, with one commenter joking that “the Jackie Evancho Trio” was now their favorite group and another writing that they ascended when the high note harmony came in. It is the kind of casual, off-the-cuff moment that shows exactly what she can do with nothing but a microphone.

Amazing Grace has a long history in Evancho’s catalog. She recorded the hymn for her independent 2009 debut album Prelude to a Dream, released when she was just nine years old, before her star-making run on America’s Got Talent the following year turned her into a household name. Returning to the song now, more than fifteen years later with a fully matured voice, makes for a full-circle moment.

Evancho has continued to evolve as an artist in recent years, moving beyond her classical crossover roots into original material, including her single Behind My Eyes, which she performed on Good Morning America in early 2024. But moments like this weekend’s video show that no matter where her artistry takes her, she can still stop you in your tracks with her voice alone.
