Singer Jackie Evancho has given a revealing interview to the New York Post, opening up about the difficulties she faced adjusting to life after early stardom on America’s Got Talent.
Now 23, Evancho shared that the pressures of fame as a young performer contributed to a painful battle with anorexia in her adolescence. As she described, obsessive focus on meeting unrealistic industry beauty standards took a serious toll on her mental health. She took career hiatuses to seek treatment.
Evancho also expressed mixed feelings regarding her choice to perform at Donald Trump’s 2017 presidential inauguration, a decision she now regrets. At the time she viewed it as an honor, but feels differently reflecting back today.
On a positive note, Evancho has discovered a new musical direction, transitioning from opera to alt-pop. Her upcoming single “Behind My Eyes,” released on her new label, represents this artistic evolution. In her words, “I found a new sound that is very genuine to me.”
Evancho’s candid discussion highlights the maturity she has gained, emerging as a young woman in control of her destiny. Despite early trials, she shows admirable resilience and personal growth.
