Back in March, when Sky’s family mystery “Flavia” was still weeks away from its UK premiere, we noted that American fans of the Alan Bradley novels and the film’s impressive cast were left without a domestic release date. That wait is officially over.

Deadline reported today that Bob Yari’s Magenta Light Studios has acquired U.S. theatrical rights to the Sky Original, setting a December 4, 2026 release date for domestic audiences. The deal also covers Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and China, giving the film a substantial international footprint beyond its original UK home on Sky Cinema and NOW, where it landed on April 4.

For those who need a refresher: “Flavia” centers on Flavia de Luce, an eleven-year-old chemistry prodigy with a gift for poison and a compulsion for detective work, who discovers a dead body at her family’s crumbling British manor house and launches her own investigation when her father unexpectedly confesses to the crime. The film is directed by Bharat Nalluri, whose credits include “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day,” and is based on the beloved Flavia de Luce mystery novels by Canadian author Alan Bradley. The screenplay was written by Susan Coyne, whose recent credits include “Daisy Jones and the Six.” Produced by Robert Mickelson, Paula Mazur, Mitchell Kaplan, and Chris Curling, the film was developed and co-financed by Telefilm Canada and Sky.

Molly Belle Wright leads the cast as Flavia, a role that should feel familiar to American audiences who saw her as Beth Bradley in Lionsgate’s “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” back in 2024. Martin Freeman, Jonathan Pryce, and Toby Jones round out the ensemble. In a statement to Deadline, director Nalluri said American moviegoers are going to discover an unforgettable young heroine in Flavia de Luce, brought brilliantly to life by Wright, and expressed enthusiasm about audiences experiencing the film together on the big screen. Bob Yari, CEO of Magenta Light Studios, called it rare to find a family mystery with this level of intelligence, charm, and broad commercial appeal.

A December theatrical window puts “Flavia” squarely in the heart of the holiday moviegoing season, which feels like exactly the right frame for a family mystery with this pedigree. Mark December 4 on the calendar.
