Millie Bobby Brown’s Enola Holmes is engaged to Louis Partridge’s Tewkesbury in “Enola Holmes 3,” a story beat confirmed Monday morning through a batch of fresh first-look images and cast interviews published by People. The Netflix sequel hits the streamer July 1.

It’s a real swing for the franchise. Two films kept the pair in slow-burn territory before the 2022 sequel capped things off with a kiss and a courtship. A wedding wasn’t on the bingo card.

Per Partridge, the wedding doesn’t go smoothly. “With any wedding, there’s drama around every corner, and this one is no exception,” the 22-year-old told People.

Brown, also 22, produces through her company PCMA Productions and described the character as more confident than in past entries while still carrying the same fire and curiosity. The emotional stakes match the case stakes this time, she said. Partridge added that both leads are older and wiser than they were in the previous films, even as the trouble around them gets bigger.

Malta sets this one apart. Earlier films stayed in Victorian London, but the third sends Enola abroad for what Netflix’s official logline calls a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before, which lands differently now that fans know she’s planning a wedding through it.

Monday’s photo set gives the widest peek at the ensemble yet. Helena Bonham Carter is back as Eudoria Holmes, glimpsed in what looks like a tunnel. Himesh Patel reprises Dr. John Watson and appears in deep conversation with Partridge in one frame. Brown and Henry Cavill are pictured working a case as the Holmes siblings. Sharon Duncan-Brewster returns as Moriarty.

The franchise has a new architect. Philip Barantini, fresh off the Emmy-winning Netflix limited series “Adolescence,” takes over the director’s chair from Harry Bradbeer, who helmed the first two films. Jack Thorne, who scripted both prior entries, is back on the page, adapting Nancy Springer’s novels for a third time. Springer’s most recent book in the “Enola Holmes Mysteries” series came out in 2023.

Barantini told People the genre shift was a stretch in a good way after the bleak realism of his last project. He called the experience an absolute blast.

A few production specifics. Cameras rolled at Shepperton Studios in Surrey starting April 10, 2025, before the crew relocated to Malta for over a month of location work, including shoots in Valletta, Mdina and at the Malta Film Studios. Reports from Screen Malta and TVMnews pegged the local crew count north of 360. Filming wrapped June 27, with Brown signing off on Instagram with a “Case closed” caption. The film carries a PG-13 rating and runs 1 hour and 45 minutes, considerably tighter than either of the first two.

Those first two were big numbers for Netflix. The 2020 original pulled 189.90 million hours watched in its first 28 days, per the streamer’s engagement report, and the 2022 sequel followed with 158.03 million hours over four weeks in the global top 10. That track record is a big part of why a third movie exists at all.

“Enola Holmes 3” hits Netflix Wednesday, July 1.
