Peacock dropped the full trailer for The Miniature Wife this morning, and it is safe to say this one is going to be a conversation starter.
The ten-episode dramedy launches on April 9th and is based on the short story by Manuel Gonzales. It examines the power imbalances between spouses Lindy and Les after a technological accident induces the ultimate relationship crisis. Lindy Littlejohn (Elizabeth Banks) sets the scene at the top of the trailer, explaining that she and her husband take turns supporting each other. She backed him through his early career, and now it’s her turn. That turn takes a sharp detour when Les accidentally shrinks Lindy down to six inches tall, adding a high-concept twist to what is otherwise a very grounded story about a marriage under strain.
The two-minute trailer shows Lindy freaking out after discovering she now inhabits a dollhouse and must battle for her life against flies and a Roomba, asking her seemingly giant husband, “So, this is my tiny little life now?” It’s being compared to a flip on the Honey I Shrunk the Kids concept, but filtered through the lens of a razor-sharp marital drama, with the day-to-day domestic life of the couple turning into a battle for power.
The series was created and written by Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner, the duo behind Goliath and Boardwalk Empire, with episodes directed by Greg Mottola and Bertie Ellwood. Banks and Macfadyen both star and executive produce, alongside Michael Aguilar, Suzanne Heathcote, Michael Ellenberg, Lindsey Springer, and director Greg Mottola.
The ensemble cast also includes O-T Fagbenle, Zoe Lister-Jones, Sian Clifford, Ronny Chieng, Aasif Mandvi, Rong Fu, and Tricia Black, and of course the name we at Trevor Decker News have been following closely for years: Sofia Rosinsky, who plays Lulu Littlejohn, the couple’s daughter, as a series regular across all ten episodes. April 9th cannot come soon enough.
