The wait is finally over for fans of the HBO hit. Today, January 14, the official trailer for Euphoria season three arrived, and it confirms what many had long suspected: the show is leaving high school behind. The new season is set to premiere on Sunday, April 12, on HBO and HBO Max, picking up with a massive five-year time jump that finds our favorite characters navigating the messy, often dangerous world of adulthood.

The trailer leans heavily into a more mature and ominous tone, with Rue (Zendaya) narrating a story that centers on a “group of childhood friends wrestling with the virtue of faith, the possibility of redemption, and the problem of evil.” Visually, the glitter and neon are still there, but they feel more “smudged” and lived-in, reflecting the higher stakes of life after graduation.

One of the most shocking reveals in the footage is the status of Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate (Jacob Elordi). The two are now married and living a seemingly quiet suburban life, though the trailer quickly hints at the cracks in that facade. Nate appears to have become a high-powered businessman, while Cassie is navigating a new career path as a cam girl, leading to tense confrontations between the two.

Rue’s journey is just as harrowing. Now living in Mexico, she is still haunted by her past—specifically her massive debt to the drug dealer Laurie. The trailer shows Rue being cornered by Laurie and a new entourage, with the chilling caption “The devil always collects.” While she seems to have found some level of sobriety, the trailer suggests her past is finally catching up to her in an action-driven plot that moves the show beyond the walls of East Highland.

The cast is also seeing a major shake-up. While core stars like Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, and Alexa Demie are returning, we now know that Barbie Ferreira, Storm Reid, and Javon Walton will not be part of the new season. The show will also have to navigate the heartbreaking absence of Angus Cloud. To fill the void, HBO has added some massive names to the roster, including Sharon Stone, Rosalía, Natasha Lyonne, and even Trisha Paytas in a surprise appearance.

With eight episodes scheduled to roll out weekly starting in April, season three looks poised to be the most intense chapter of the series yet. It’s a darker, more consequence-driven era for Euphoria, and if the trailer is any indication, no one is coming out of this time jump unscathed.
