It’s finally happening. After months of hushed rumors and industry speculation, the first teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg’s new UFO movie, Disclosure Day, just landed online. If you’ve been waiting for the master of cinema to turn his lens back toward the stars, today is your day.

Universal Pictures dropped the 90-second spot this morning, confirming the movie will hit theaters on June 12, 2026.

Spielberg practically invented the modern cinematic language for alien encounters. Whether it was the spiritual awe of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the heart-wrenching connection in E.T., or the visceral terror of War of the Worlds, he defined how generations imagine life beyond Earth. However, it has been a long time since he tackled the genre in earnest, which makes this drop a massive moment for movie buffs.

This new footage feels distinct from his previous work. The title Disclosure Day taps directly into the current real-world conversations and anxieties surrounding UAPs and government transparency. The teaser suggests a film that is grounded, gritty, and incredibly tense. It seems less focused on the whimsical “wonder” of the 80s and more interested in the “reality” of the 2020s—specifically, how society fractures when the ultimate truth is finally revealed.

The teaser confirms the heavyweight cast we’ve been hearing rumors about. We see Emily Blunt (playing what looks like a TV meteorologist who freezes mid-broadcast), Josh O’Connor, Colman Domingo, and Colin Firth. The imagery is haunting—specifically a recurring motif of a cardinal bird with an unnatural, upside-down eye—and the tagline is sure to keep theorists busy until summer: “The truth belongs to 7 billion people.”

We aren’t going to spoil the rest, because the sound design alone is worth the experience. You need to feel the atmosphere Spielberg is building for yourself. It is safe to say that the box office battle for next summer just got a lot more interesting.
