Warner Bros. is bringing “Gremlins” back to theaters. The studio confirmed a new installment dated for November 19, 2027, with Steven Spielberg returning as executive producer and original screenwriter Chris Columbus set to direct and produce.
The project marks the franchise’s first theatrical film since “Gremlins 2: The New Batch” in 1990. Columbus will collaborate on the script with Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein from an existing draft, with Amblin Entertainment producing alongside the studio. Casting has not been announced.
The original “Gremlins,” directed by Joe Dante and written by Columbus, became a pop culture touchstone in 1984. In recent years the property returned in animated form with “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai,” which explored the mythology around Gizmo and the rules that keep Mogwai out of trouble.
Plot details for the new film are under wraps. With Columbus at the helm and Spielberg involved, expectations center on practical creature work blended with modern effects while keeping the series’ mischievous tone intact. As development moves forward, we will track updates on story, casting, and production milestones here on Trevor Decker News.
