‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Part 1 Review: A Sharper, More Focused Chapter with Jenna Ortega at the Helm
The second season of Netflix’s Wednesday returns with even more bite—and it’s better for it. With Jenna Ortega stepping in as a producer, Part 1 of Season 2 feels noticeably more aligned with the legacy of The Addams Family, leaning into the eerie and the mysterious rather than the romantic.
One of the most notable shifts this season is its laser focus on Wednesday’s mission. Gone are the love triangles and distractions from Season 1. In their place, we get a stronger emphasis on unraveling the secrets that surround Nevermore Academy. It’s a welcome evolution that gives the show a more mature, Addams-authentic tone.
Among the highlights is the introduction of Agnes, Wednesday’s obsessive fan. Her character is integrated seamlessly into the story and adds an intriguing layer to the ongoing mystery. Another standout is Steve Buscemi’s performance as the new head of Nevermore—an inspired casting choice that brings both eccentric charm and a sense of unpredictability to the role.
With just four episodes in Part 1, each running about an hour, the pacing strikes a satisfying balance. The season flows smoothly, gradually building tension without feeling rushed. Every installment contributes meaningfully to the overarching story.
While some fans might search for flaws, this first half doesn’t leave much to complain about. Instead of overanalyzing, it’s easy to simply enjoy the ride—especially for those who love The Addams Family world and its gothic sensibilities.
As the curtain closes on Part 1, the revelations about a secret program brewing behind the scenes at Nevermore set the stage for an exciting continuation. With much now exposed, Part 2 promises to bring even more twists—and likely some consequences—for Wednesday and those around her.
