Disney+ has found magic again with its latest series, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, a nostalgic revival that brings back the Russo family for a whole new generation. In its debut, the series drew in a remarkable 3.2 million viewers globally within the first 12 days of streaming, marking a record-breaking achievement as Disney Channel’s most-watched series premiere on the platform. According to Disney, this premiere captivated young audiences and longtime fans alike, signaling a strong return for the Russo family.
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, expressed excitement over the series’ success, noting its appeal across different demographics and platforms. “Its standout debut reflects the enduring appeal and relevance of this beloved franchise – and the creativity and talent driving this new chapter,” Davis stated.
The show’s momentum is especially strong with younger viewers, ranking as the top streaming series in the U.S. for Kids 6-11, Girls 6-11, Teens, and even Adults 18-24, based on early Nielsen data. To further engage a digital-savvy audience, Disney strategically released the first episode on YouTube, attracting 1.1 million views to date and setting a new performance benchmark for Disney Channel on the platform since 2017. With a strong social media presence, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place has accumulated over 125 million impressions and 13 million engagements across Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, indicating a high level of excitement and interaction from fans.
The plot follows Justin Russo, now an adult and leading a mortal life with his family. When his sister, Alex, turns up seeking his help to guide a young wizard-in-training, Justin finds himself drawn back into the magical world. Balancing family responsibilities and the wizarding challenges ahead promises plenty of charm and humor for both nostalgic fans and new viewers.
Behind the scenes, the series reunites key talent from the original show, including writers and executive producers Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, alongside Gary Marsh, Jonas Agin, Selena Gomez, and David Henrie. Directed by Andy Fickman, who helmed the pilot and will direct several episodes, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place looks set to continue the legacy of Wizards of Waverly Place while carving out a fresh path for new adventures.
With Wizards Beyond Waverly Place enchanting audiences and gaining impressive viewership on Disney+, it’s clear that the Russo family’s magic is as strong as ever. Keep checking Trevor Decker News for more updates on this record-breaking revival!
