Maren Morris Brings Her Musical Magic to DreamWorks Animation’s ‘The Wild Robot’

NOTE: This article is 2 months old and may not include the most recent information.

Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Maren Morris is set to captivate audiences with two new original songs in the highly anticipated DreamWorks Animation film, “The Wild Robot.” The tracks, titled “Kiss the Sky” and “Even When I’m Not,” were written and performed exclusively for the film, adding a unique musical layer to this already enchanting story. Fans can look forward to the release of “Kiss the Sky” and its accompanying music video on August 28, while the full soundtrack album, featuring “Even When I’m Not,” will drop on September 27, coinciding with the film’s theatrical release.

“The Wild Robot,” based on Peter Brown’s beloved, best-selling novel, follows the journey of Roz, a ROZZUM unit 7134, who finds herself stranded on an uninhabited island. The story explores Roz’s struggle to adapt to the island’s harsh environment, her budding relationships with the island’s animal inhabitants, and her role as an adoptive mother to an orphaned gosling. The film, featuring the voice talents of Academy Award® winner Lupita Nyong’o as Roz, is a moving exploration of what it means to be alive and connected to all living things.

Morris, who has made a name for herself as one of the leading voices in music today, brings her emotional depth to the film’s soundtrack. The song “Kiss the Sky” plays during a pivotal scene of geese migration, interwoven with the film’s score by Oscar®-winning composer Kris Bowers. Moved by the story’s emotional weight, Morris and her team were inspired to write a second song, “Even When I’m Not,” which plays during the film’s end credits.

Maren Morris expressed her personal connection to the project, stating, “Writing the songs for this film was such an honor because it made me feel even closer to my son, especially when I’m touring and sometimes have to be far away from him. The entire Wild Robot team has been so supportive of the creation of these songs, and I’m so excited for the world to see this film.”

The production duo The Monsters & Strangerz, along with Isaiah Tejada, collaborated with Morris to bring these songs to life, ensuring they would resonate with both the film’s narrative and its audience. The film itself is directed by three-time Oscar® nominee Chris Sanders, known for his work on “The Croods,” “How to Train Your Dragon,” and “Lilo & Stitch.” The stellar voice cast also includes Pedro Pascal, Catherine O’Hara, Kit Connor, Bill Nighy, and Stephanie Hsu, among others.

“The Wild Robot” is not just a film but a powerful story that examines the bridge between technology and nature, wrapped in a thrilling adventure. Peter Brown’s original novel, first published in 2016, has become a literary phenomenon, inspiring a trilogy that continues to captivate readers of all ages.

As we await the release of “The Wild Robot” and its accompanying soundtrack, Maren Morris’s contributions promise to add an emotional and musical depth that will resonate with audiences long after the credits roll.
