Natalie Portman recently shared the joy of voicing a character in the hit animated series “Bluey,” a role that holds special meaning for her and her family. The 43-year-old actress appeared on Today to promote her new Apple TV+ series “Lady in the Lake” and gave viewers a delightful surprise by revealing her fond memories of her cameo in the “Bluey” season 3 episode “Whale Watching.”
During the interview, host Hoda Kotb noticed “Bluey” listed on Portman’s résumé, sparking curiosity. Portman elaborated on the significance of this role, explaining, “I was a narrator of a nature documentary that they were watching.” She added that being part of “Bluey” was a significant honor for her family. “It’s a very important show for my family, and I was really, really honored to get to be part of it,” she shared.
Portman, who shares two children, son Aleph (13) and daughter Amalia (7), with her ex-husband Benjamin Millepied, voiced the “Whale Doco Narrator” in the episode. The storyline features a whale documentary playing on TV while Bluey and Bingo engage in imaginative play with their dad. Portman’s narration adds depth to the episode with lines such as, “Whales travel extremely long distances into warm waters to have their babies. They stay with them all the way back to the colder waters. There’s nothing a whale mom wouldn’t do for her children.” This touching moment prompts the children’s mom to join in the fun, underscoring the show’s themes of family and togetherness.
Portman’s appearance on “Bluey” places her among other notable stars who have guest-starred on the show, such as Eva Mendes, Rose Byrne, and Robert Irwin. Each guest brings a unique touch to the series, enhancing its appeal and storytelling.
In addition to her reflections on “Bluey,” Portman celebrated her 43rd birthday in June. She marked the occasion with a heartfelt Instagram post on June 10, expressing gratitude for her friends’ unwavering support. “This year, on my birthday, I want to celebrate my gratitude for my friends who lift me up again and again,” Portman wrote, accompanied by photos with her friends.
As Portman looks back on her delightful experience with “Bluey,” she is also excited about her upcoming project, “Lady in the Lake.” The first two episodes of the series will premiere on Apple TV+ on July 19, with new episodes releasing every Friday through August 12.
