Pixar and Disney have another reason to celebrate as “Inside Out 2” has crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, setting a new record for the fastest time for an animated film to reach this milestone. This accomplishment highlights the film’s massive appeal and significant role in revitalizing the summer box office.
The film achieved this remarkable feat in just 19 days, outpacing all previous animated films in reaching the billion-dollar mark. “Inside Out 2” maintained its dominance over the box office in its third weekend, grossing $57.4 million domestically, bringing its North American total to $469.3 million. Internationally, it added another $108 million, boosting its overseas total to $545.5 million and achieving a global cumulative of $1.015 billion.
This success makes “Inside Out 2” the first film since last year’s “Barbie” to join the exclusive billion-dollar club and the 11th animated film to do so. Disney continues to lead in this category, with eight of these top-grossing animated films coming from either Pixar or Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Directed by Kelsey Mann, “Inside Out 2” expands on the beloved original by introducing a new set of emotions to the story’s protagonist, Riley, who is now navigating her teenage years. The new emotions—Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment—join the familiar faces of Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, adding depth and humor to the narrative.
The voice cast features a mix of returning and new talent, including Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Kensington Tallman, Liza Lapira, Tony Hale, Lewis Black, Phyllis Smith, Ayo Edebiri, Lilimar, Grace Lu, Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Diane Lane, Kyle MacLachlan, Paul Walter Hauser, and Yvette Nicole Brown.
The original “Inside Out,” released in 2015, was a significant hit, grossing $858.8 million worldwide. However, “Inside Out 2” has exceeded all expectations, breaking records and reaffirming Pixar’s status as a powerhouse in animated filmmaking.
