At Amazon’s upfront presentation in New York City, Prime Video offered a first look at the highly anticipated second season of their hit series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The show’s inaugural season proved to be a massive success, garnering over 100 million viewers worldwide and driving a significant increase in Prime sign-ups.
The second season is set to premiere globally on Thursday, August 29, and will be available in multiple languages across over 240 countries and territories.
A new key art image was revealed, highlighting the return of the infamous villain Sauron, who will appear in a new, deceptive form in the upcoming season. The debut teaser trailer offers a glimpse into the action-packed return to J.R.R. Tolkien’s Second Age, showcasing Sauron’s growing evil presence and his quest for ultimate power. It also features the return of beloved characters such as Galadriel, Elrond, Prince Durin IV, Arondir, and Celebrimbor, and teases the creation of more Rings.
In season two, Sauron, cast out by Galadriel and devoid of an army, relies on his cunning to regain strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, aiming to control all of Middle-earth. The new season promises to build upon the epic scale of the first, delving deeper into the struggles of both beloved and vulnerable characters as they navigate a world increasingly consumed by darkness. With rising tensions and fracturing alliances, the forces of good must fight to preserve what they hold dear: each other.
