Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan Cast in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season Three

Prime Video has tapped Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan for the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the streaming service confirmed. The series, now in pre-production, is scheduled to begin filming this spring at Shepperton Studios in the United Kingdom, its new production base. Bower joins as a series regular, while Marsan will appear in a recurring capacity. Specifics about their roles have not been disclosed, leaving their contributions to the Middle-earth narrative a matter of speculation for now.

Since its debut, The Rings of Power has amassed over 170 million viewers globally, establishing itself as a significant draw for Prime Video. The show’s first season marked the platform’s largest television premiere, with its second season recording the highest hours watched for a returning series. The series continues to resonate with a broad audience, contributing to an uptick in Prime membership sign-ups.

Bower, recognized for his portrayal of Henry Creel/Vecna in Netflix’s Stranger Things, brings a diverse resume to the production. His film credits include Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchises as Gellert Grindelwald, and the Twilight series. He recently appeared in Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1. In addition to acting, Bower has pursued a music career, performing across Europe and the United States. His series-regular status suggests a substantial presence in the upcoming season.

Marsan, a veteran actor with more than two decades in the industry, has earned two British Independent Film Awards for his performances in Mike Leigh’s Vera Drake and Happy-Go-Lucky. Recently honored with an OBE for his work in film and advocacy for diversity, Marsan’s recent projects include the Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black, Apple TV+’s Franklin alongside Michael Douglas, and Netflix’s Supacell. His filmography spans major titles like Deadpool 2 and Mission: Impossible III as well as the indie drama Tyrannosaur. His recurring role adds another layer of experience to the cast.

The series has maintained strong critical reception, with both its first and second seasons earning Certified Fresh ratings on Rotten Tomatoes for their expansive storytelling and production quality. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay lead the project, supported by executive producers Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell, and Charlotte Brändström, who also directs. Matthew Penry-Davey serves as producer, with Ally O’Leary, Tim Keene, and Andrew Lee as co-producers.

As production ramps up, attention turns to how Bower and Marsan will influence the next chapter of The Rings of Power. The series remains a cornerstone of Prime Video’s lineup, with Season Three expected to further its exploration of Middle-earth’s Second Age. Additional details are anticipated as the premiere approaches.
