CBS is reportedly developing a spinoff of their popular comedy series ‘Young Sheldon’ that would focus on the characters of Georgie Cooper and Mandy McAllister. Early plans are in place for a potential multicamera sitcom ordering starring Montana Jordan and Emily Osment.
In ‘Young Sheldon,’ Georgie Cooper is the older brother of central character Sheldon Cooper, portrayed by Jordan. Mandy is Georgie’s fiancée, played by Osment. The pair has developed a fan following due to their humorous interactions on the show. According to sources, the proposed spinoff would likely target a 13-episode first season to debut in 2024-25.
‘Young Sheldon’ creators Chuck Lorre, Steve Holland and Steve Molaro would write and executive produce the still-untitled spinoff. The flagship show enters its final season this year after a successful 7-year run.
Formal negotiations with the actors are said to be underway, and CBS and producing studio Warner Bros. Television have declined to publicly comment on the reporting. Firm deals would need to be in place before the network issues a definitive series order.
If finalized, this would mark CBS’s third straight-to-series project for next season, along with the ‘NCIS’ prequel ‘Origins’ and Sherlock Holmes offshoot ‘Watson’. It would also expand executive producer Lorre’s TV universe, which includes hits like ‘The Big Bang Theory’, ‘Two and a Half Men’ and ‘Mom’.
