After the massive success of ‘Wednesday,’ Netflix is considering expanding the franchise with a potential new series focused on Uncle Fester. The streaming service is in the early stages of developing a spinoff starring Fred Armisen, who had a memorable guest appearance as Fester in one episode.
The idea is to build on the popular revival of The Addams Family by giving fans more of the creepy, kooky world introduced in the hit coming-of-age series. Talks of a spinoff are underway while a second season of ‘Wednesday,’ starring breakout Jenna Ortega, is also being prepared.
Not much is known yet about plans for the possible Uncle Fester series. It could show a younger version of the eccentric character, or be set in the continuity established in ‘Wednesday.’ But it signals that Netflix is eager to tap into the current mania for all things Addams Family.
While Ortega’s Wednesday would likely remain central, her first season opened the door for more family members to get their time in the spotlight. Expanding the franchise with spinoffs centered around beloved characters allows Netflix to feed viewer appetite for the franchise beyond just Wednesday herself.
For audiences charmed by both Ortega’s snarky sleuthing and Armisen’s zany electricity-conjuring Fester, more weird and wild Addams-themed series appear to be brewing. Stay tuned for more on the potential new series as Netflix plots expanding the world of everyone’s favorite gloomy fam.
