This December, Angel Studios is launching a genre-bending foray into science fiction with the slated release of “The Shift.” The movie blends sci-fi multiverse concepts with allegorical biblical themes centered on integrity and resilience when facing adversity.
Lead actor Kristoffer Polaha stars as protagonist Kevin, who finds himself transported to parallel universes after refusing an offer from Neal McDonough’s enigmatic Benefactor character. Kevin’s subsequent journey to return home draws parallels to the Book of Job as he faces various trials that test his principles.
Director Brock Heasley stated that he approached the production with grounded sci-fi elements focused more on character development rather than CGI effects alone. Supporting cast includes Elizabeth Tabish as Kevin’s wife and Rose Reid as an additional multiverse traveler named Tina.
While Angel Studios has found faith-based success in 2023, “The Shift” marks their first exploration into Biblical-inspired science fiction on this scale. With genre elements akin to films like “The Matrix,” early footage hints at reality-bending action balanced with spiritually-driven drama.
As the release nears, prospective viewers can expect a highly-conceptual hybrid experience that merges the two spheres. The production team conveys their intention is an entertaining spectacle that retains dramatic weight amidst dimension-hopping exploits.
‘The Shift’ will arrive in theaters December 1.
