Fans of the hit Netflix comedy Derry Girls – get excited! The brilliant creator behind that show, writer Lisa McGee, has a new comedy-thriller in development.
McGee is teaming up with the production company Hat Trick, known for making many popular British comedy series, to create this new show for the UK network Channel 4. The working title is “How to Get to Heaven from Belfast.”
While details are still scarce, here’s what we know so far about McGee’s upcoming show:
- It will blend funny and thrilling elements, just like her signature style seen in Derry Girls. That coming-of-age sitcom became a global sensation after streaming on Netflix.
- The plot follows three friends from Northern Ireland reuniting in their thirties. After a past classmate’s death, they embark on an adventure uncovering buried secrets.
- McGee will collaborate with Liz Lewin and Caroline Leddy, producers behind Derry Girls.
- No release date or casting yet, but stay tuned!
Beyond Derry Girls, McGee created the UK sitcoms London Irish and The Deceived. She’s considered one of the UK’s top comedy writing talents.
For American fans of Derry Girls’ offbeat humor and emotional storytelling, McGee’s new show promises more of her unique voice. Though details are still few, the collaboration between McGee and production company Hat Trick sparks excitement.
We hope McGee’s new comedy-thriller will become available for streaming in the US as well! More updates coming soon on “How to Get to Heaven from Belfast”, Lisa McGee’s upcoming show for Channel 4!
