Fans are buzzing with excitement as the upcoming Ghostbusters film is being produced in the United Kingdom, four years after the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Mckenna Grace has offered a sneak peek of her reprising the role of Phoebe Spengler, Egon Spengler’s granddaughter.
Grace shared a TikTok video, captioned “… Who ya gonna call?” showing her wearing the signature Spengler glasses and curly dark hair. Although Columbia Pictures Ghost Corps has yet to officially announce Grace’s participation in the sequel, her return seems likely. The film’s synopsis refers to it as “the next chapter in the Spengler Family saga,” and Grace herself confirmed her involvement in a recent interview with ComicBook.com:
“It’s gonna be strange stepping back into that character because I had just turned 13 when we began filming [Ghostbusters: Afterlife], and now on our [new] set, I’m going to turn 17.”
Casting rumors picked up when Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Logan Kim were seen attending the Ghostbusters VR Academy launch at a Gravity Active Entertainment Center in the United Kingdom. In addition, Celeste O’Connor, an Afterlife co-star, posted a photo from Oxfordshire, England, a few weeks prior, further fueling speculation.
The yet-to-be-named Ghostbusters sequel, currently operating under the working title “Firehouse,” is scheduled for a December 20th, 2023 theater release. Stay tuned for more updates as the film’s production progresses.
