Angel Studios has officially acquired the theatrical distribution rights to Andy Serkis’ highly anticipated animated adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm. The film, which features a screenplay by Nicholas Stoller, has been scheduled for a wide theatrical release on May 1, 2026.

Produced by Adam Nagle and Dave Rosenbaum for Aniventure, alongside Jonathan Cavendish and Serkis for Imaginarium Productions, the project utilizes animation from Cinesite. The adaptation previously premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 9, garnering early attention from industry critics.

The film boasts a significant voice cast, led by Seth Rogen as Napoleon and Laverne Cox as Snowball, who is reimagined in this version as a sow and rival to Napoleon. Woody Harrelson voices the loyal horse Boxer, while Kieran Culkin takes on the role of Squealer, the propagandist. The ensemble is rounded out by Glenn Close as Freida Pilkington, Steve Buscemi as Mr. Whymper, Jim Parsons as Carl the sheep, Kathleen Turner as Benjamin the donkey, and Gaten Matarazzo as Lucky. Serkis also steps behind the microphone to voice Mr. Jones and Randolph the Rooster.

Regarding the acquisition, Brandon Purdie, Executive Vice President of Theatrical and Brand Development at Angel, described the project as having “visionary direction” and a “powerhouse cast.” Serkis emphasized the timing of the release, noting that Orwell’s cautionary tale regarding power and propaganda remains vital in the current landscape.
