ABC is showing confidence in its multi-camera sitcom Shifting Gears, starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings. The network has ordered three extra episodes for the comedy’s second season, bringing the total count to 13.

The pickup gives the series a longer run than its debut season, which launched midseason with 10 episodes. While not a full-season order — typically 18 or more episodes — the move solidifies the show’s place on ABC’s fall schedule.

Shifting Gears centers on a single mother, played by Dennings, who moves back in with her estranged father (Allen), the owner of an auto restoration shop. The series blends family dynamics with workplace humor, anchored by the chemistry between its two leads.

The ensemble cast also includes Seann William Scott, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins, and Barrett Margolis. Behind the scenes, Michelle Nader serves as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Allen and a team of veteran comedy producers. Dennings is also credited as a producer.

Season 2 continues to air on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. as part of ABC’s comedy block.
