Prime Video has started production on a new limited series Joseph of Egypt, bringing the Old Testament story to life with Adam Hashmi starring in the title role. The eight-episode drama comes from The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins, alongside writer and showrunner Craig Wright.

The series follows Joseph’s journey after being betrayed by his brothers, charting his rise to power in Egypt as second only to Pharaoh. Along the way, he must face his past and the ultimate test of faith. Filming is currently underway in New Mexico.

Joining Hashmi in the cast is Alexander Siddig (Foundation) as Jacob, Babak Tafti (Succession) as Simeon, Daniel Peera (The Cleaning Lady) as Reuben, and Iris Bahr (Curb Your Enthusiasm) as Leah.

Jenkins’ involvement is a notable draw for fans of The Chosen, which is already available on Prime Video. The platform will also host the final two seasons of that hit series, covering the crucifixion and resurrection.

With Jenkins attached and a strong ensemble, Joseph of Egypt looks to be another sweeping biblical drama set to capture audiences when it debuts on Prime Video.
