Stranger Things Season 5 Trailer Teases Epic Final Battle, Max’s Fate, and the Return of Vecna

Netflix has officially unveiled the first trailer for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, offering a high-stakes glimpse into the battle that will close out the hit series. Set in the fall of 1987, the story picks up in a drastically changed Hawkins, Indiana, now ravaged by the Rifts to the Upside Down and under tight military lockdown.

The teaser reintroduces familiar faces and previews emotional reunions and farewells. Notably, the fate of Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) remains unresolved. She’s shown in a coma as Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) tearfully sits by her side, a reminder of the devastating aftermath of season 4. Meanwhile, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and the rest of the core group — Mike, Will, Dustin, Steve, Nancy, Robin, Jonathan, Joyce, and Hopper — are once again brought together by a common goal: to locate and destroy Vecna once and for all.

One of the major surprises in the trailer is the first look at Linda Hamilton in the role of Dr. Kay, as well as the intense presence of Demogorgons, signaling a return to the show’s most terrifying roots. Vecna may have vanished, but the darkness he left behind looms larger than ever, and government efforts to control the chaos have only made things worse — with Eleven once again forced into hiding.

Season 5 will arrive in three parts, each aligning with a holiday release: Volume 1 on November 26 (four episodes), Volume 2 on Christmas Day (three episodes), and the series finale on New Year’s Eve — dropping at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET.

The Duffers have called this the most ambitious and personal season yet. “It’s like eight blockbuster movies,” Ross Duffer noted, referencing the year-long shoot and over 650 hours of footage. Matt Duffer added that the cast and crew poured their hearts into this final chapter, making for an emotional and “heartbreaking” farewell.

The trailer hints at possible major character losses, showing intimate moments among fan-favorites and flashbacks to season 4 tragedies — including Dustin still mourning Eddie Munson. In a voiceover, Mike is heard declaring it’s time to “burn it all down,” underscoring the desperate and all-in nature of this last stand.

Viewers can also expect new revelations about the Upside Down’s mythology, as the final season promises to unpack the last remaining pieces of lore that the Duffer Brothers originally conceived back in season one. With episode titles like “The Turnbow Trap,” “Shock Jock,” and the finale’s poignant name “The Rightside Up,” it’s clear that Stranger Things intends to bring its story full circle.

As always, fans can expect big action, big emotion, and a final adventure that unites the full party one last time.
