Netflix has announced a new addition to its horror lineup with a series executive produced by the Duffer Brothers, creators of “Stranger Things.” The series, titled “Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen,” is described as an atmospheric horror set at a wedding, following a bride and groom in the week leading up to their ill-fated nuptials.
Haley Z. Boston, known for her work on “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities” and “Brand New Cherry Flavor,” created the series and will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Boston’s directorial debut, the short film “Beach Logs Kill,” premiered at SXSW earlier this year.
The production team includes the Duffer Brothers, Hilary Leavitt, and Andrea Sperling, with both Sperling and Upside Down Pictures, the Duffer Brothers’ production company, under overall deals with Netflix. Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Scripted Series (US & Canada) for Netflix, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with Boston, Matt, Ross, and Hilary.
The Duffer Brothers highlighted Boston’s talent and voice in her writing, stating their excitement to produce her first show.
This announcement follows Netflix’s reveal of a first look at the final season of “Stranger Things,” with production roughly halfway done and an expected premiere in 2025. The Duffer Brothers are also working on multiple other projects, including “The Boroughs,” a “Stranger Things” spinoff, and a live-action adaptation of “Death Note.”
