Drew Barrymore Postpones Talk Show Return After Backlash For Not Showing Solidarity With Writers’ Strike

NOTE: This article is 8 months old and may not include the most recent information.

Drew Barrymore has announced she is postponing the return of her daytime talk show as the writers’ strike continues into its fifth month.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, Barrymore said she has decided to delay filming new episodes in solidarity with striking writers. This comes after facing criticism for originally planning to resume production.

“I am making the decision to pause the show’s premiere until the strike is over,” Barrymore wrote.

The high-profile postponement lends support to the writers, who are seeking higher pay and improvements in areas like streaming residuals. Writers are also concerned about the threat automation and AI pose to their jobs.

The Writers Guild of America strike began in early May and has impacted numerous film, TV and digital media productions.

Barrymore expressed hope for a swift resolution to the months-long dispute fueled by issues like residuals and the rise of AI. She did not indicate when filming might resume.
