New Exorcist Sequel Footage Revealed at CinemaCon: “Exorcist: Believer”

NOTE: This article is 1 year old and may not include the most recent information.

CinemaCon attendees were treated to a thrilling preview this afternoon as producer Jason Blum and filmmaker David Gordon Green unveiled the first footage of their upcoming Exorcist sequel, “Exorcist: Believer.” The dynamic duo had previously joined forces on the recent Halloween movies, breathing new life into the story of Jamie Lee Curtis’ iconic character, Laurie Strode.

The intense Exorcist: Believer footage introduces viewers to Leslie Odom Jr.’s character, whose daughter vanishes, only to be discovered in the woods and taken to the hospital. As the story unravels, it is revealed that she has been missing for three harrowing days. The suspense builds as she begins convulsing, and other young girls are shown succumbing to demonic possession. One particularly chilling scene depicts a possessed girl entering a Catholic Church, shouting, “The body and the blood! The body and the blood!”

Ellen Burstyn makes a triumphant return to her role from the original Exorcist movie as Chris MacNeil, offering her assistance to families struggling with possessed children. MacNeil’s character seems to harbor a hidden secret, as evidenced by her confrontation with one of the girls in the trailer, where she exclaims, “we’ve met before.”

Deadline reports that Universal and Peacock have secured the global rights to the new franchise from Morgan Creek and Blumhouse. The much-anticipated Exorcist: Believer is slated for an October 13th release, but with the trailer only stating ‘October,’ there may be some room for adjustment in the release date.
